However, this loophole undermines the original intent of emission regulations and shifts pollution from the air to our oceans. The wastewater produced by scrubbers spews heavy metals and toxins into the sea, acidifying our ocean and harming marine life.

Right now, 65% of ships follow best practices by using cleaner fuels instead of relying on scrubbers. We believe that number should be 100% — and the way to make that happen is by turning up the heat on charterers to stop working with shipowners who use scrubber fleets.
